When Cameron Green was bought as an all-rounder ahead of IPL 2026 by KKR for Rs. 25.2 crore, he was expected to light up the 19th edition. Less than three weeks into the tournament, he has done anything but that as Ajinkya Rahane’s men find themselves at the bottom of the table after playing five games.

Cameron Green Under the Scanner

Not just Green’s batting, his bowling has also found criticism. The man has made just 56 runs in five innings and taken just one wicket while conceding at 14.5 runs per over. In other words, he has struggled in both the departments for which KKR roped him in.

Aaron Finch Has an Answer

So, what is the solution? Well, former Aussie skipper Aaron Finch has one. Finch, the man who led Australia to their only T20 World Cup title in 2021, said that Green’s best shot would be to open the batting. He felt that as a top order player, Green will struggle against top quality spin in the middle overs when he bats lower down. As far as the bowling is concerned, Finch believes Green should bowl most of his overs in the middle. At most one over should be bowled by him in the powerplay.

Aaron Finch Wants Cameron Green to Open the Batting

“I think his best spot would be to open the batting. Coming in through the middle and being exposed to top-quality spin is a really difficult change for a top-order player. So, what we've seen at the moment is a player who has come in after limited cricket. There hasn’t been a huge amount of T20 cricket that he’s played over the last 12 months, so that probably weighs into the fact that he’s still searching for the best way to execute his T20 plans,” he said while speaking to the media.

Aaron Finch Feels Cameron Green Should Bowl Mainly in the Middle Overs

“Bowl the majority of his overs through the middle, maybe one in the powerplay and then a couple through the middle,” he added.

KKR Face Uphill Task

KKR are last with just a point from five games. Their only point came thanks to a no-result vs PBKS. They are the only ones winless so far in IPL 2026. KKR’s next match is vs GT on April 17 and they need to start winning if they want to make it to the Playoffs and have a shot at a 4th IPL title.
